First Asian games were inaugurated on 4 March 1951 in New Delhi India. 11 Asian countries participated with 489 participants. Japan topped the medal list followed by India.

Indian Naval Ship (INS) Vikrant was the first aircraft carrier of Indian Navy. It was commissioned on 4 March 1961. It served a major role in the Indo-Pakistan war in 1971.It was decommissioned in 1997 and is preserved as a floating museum at Mumbai.
