11 March 1915 is the birth-date of Vijay Hazare. A renowned batsman of his times and the Indian captain who led India to it's first test match victory while playing against England.
11 March 1985, Mikhail Gorbachev takes office as the General Secretary of the Communist party of the Soviet Union. His policies of Glasnost and Perestroika gave new freedoms to Soviet citizens. He made efforts to end the cold war between western countries and Soviet Union. He reoriented the strategic aims of Soviet Union which resulted in the end of the cold war and disassociation of Soviet Union. He was later awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1990.
